11 June 2025 | Safety Risk Assessment (HIRARC) Activity by Construction Technology Students

A group of students from the Bachelor of Construction Technology program carried out a safety risk assessment (HIRARC) activity at a construction site as part of their learning for the course AMT20504 Safety, Health and Environmental Management, under the supervision of Dr. Hazirah Pengiran. The activity took place at the construction site of the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters.

Through this activity, students gained hands-on experience in conducting HIRARC based on actual work conditions at a construction site.
The program extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Eddy Zhafri from JKR and the contractor team involved for their guidance and support throughout the process.

September 12, 2022 | MondayFKTA welcomed the delegation of SMK Dato' Perdana, Bachok Kelantan - Form 6 students (Science Stream) for the Collaboration Program with FKTA. Several activities are planned for the purpose of giving exposure to the university environment to students such as laboratory visits, hands on ferro-cement, as well as UniMAP promotional activities, generally FKTA.
SULAM: INNOVATION PROJECT FOR DECORATIVE FLOWER POT RACK IMPLEMENTATION The SULAM program titled "INNOVATION PROJECT FOR DECORATIVE FLOWER POT RACK IMPLEMENTATION" was organized by final-year FKTA students at Darul Ulum Mosque, Wang Ulu, Kangar, Perlis. This program took place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, and involved 4 students from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and 2 mosque members.The program activities included a demonstration on how to make decorative flower pot racks using PVC pipes. The main objective of organizing this program was to beautify and brighten up the mosque area as well as to provide ideas for the mosque to improve the surroundings. The flower pot racks made from PVC pipes are easy to modify, either by increasing the number of racks or by diversifying their designs.The implementation of making flower pot racks using PVC pipes involved collaboration between UniMAP students and mosque members to learn how to make these racks. This activity also strengthened the relationship between UniMAP students and the local community at Darul Ulum Mosque.In addition, this project aimed to expose UniMAP students to community service activities, enhance their communication skills, and foster a spirit of volunteerism and a high sense of concern for the local community.Organizer: Final-year FKTA students in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Perlis.
Strategic Collaboration Between THB Maintenance and UniMAP: Gotong-Royong Perdana Perlis 2024 in Celebration of National Technical Profession Day 3 December 2024 | FKTA was invited by THB Maintenance Sdn. Bhd. to participate in the Gotong-Royong Perdana for the Federal Roads of Perlis, held in conjunction with National Technical Profession Day at Padang Besar, Perlis. The event was also joined by other government agencies and local residents. The program was officiated by the Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) for Titi Tinggi, YB Tuan Izizam bin Ibrahim.The gotong-royong activities included painting curbs, cleaning drains, and collecting litter, all aimed at beautifying the area and strengthening the strategic relationship between THB Maintenance and UniMAP in promoting community development and the maintenance of state infrastructure.A heartfelt thanks to the 11 students and 5 academic staff members from FKTA (Dr. Norlia, Dr. Liyana, Dr. Salwa, Associate Professor Dr. Ts. Fazdliel Aswad, and Mr. Ahmad Faizal) who contributed their efforts in supporting the collaborative activities between both parties.
SULAM PROGRAM: MAINTAINING SCHOOL GROUNDS WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS USING FERRO-CEMENT CONSTRUCTION METHODS On June 7, 2024, the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in collaboration with Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma successfully organized the program "Maintaining School Grounds with Recycled Materials Using Ferro-Cement Construction Methods." This program involved the participation of 23 Form 4 Visual Arts students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma. This program is part of UniMAP's efforts to enhance community knowledge and awareness through the Service Learning Malaysia (SULAM) initiative. Five final-year students from the Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Environmental Engineering programs were involved in the implementation of this SULAM initiative and served as the program's organizing committee and facilitators. Participants were exposed to the methods of making flower pots using ferro-cement and recycled materials, in addition to strengthening the relationship between Universiti Malaysia Perlis students and the school community. The main purpose of organizing the program is to convey issues related to environmental sustainability and eco-friendly solutions to reuse waste materials into valuable products for the school community. By transforming these waste materials into useful items, the program aims to provide quality education by creating sustainable cities and communities to address improper waste disposal issues and reduce adverse environmental impacts. FKTA would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Puan Haliah Binti Othman, Principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma; Cikgu Fadli, Head of the Visual Arts Education Committee; and the teachers who attended and provided excellent cooperation in making this program a success.
