IDEERS 2023 Taipei, Taiwan

Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools
On 20-24 September 2023, a total of four second-year students of the UR6526001 Civil Engineering program (Cakriron A/L Bon Lot, Suwarnakalisswaren A/L Velayutham, Sriatiqah binti Mohd Jada and Nik Nurul Afiyah binti Wan Zainodin) from FKTA participated in the IDEERS 2023 competition which was held in Taipei, Taiwan. The students were guided by Ir. Dr. Nik Zainab binti Nik Azizan and accompanied by Dr. Farahiyah binti Abdul Rahman.

IDEERS (Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools) is an annual competition that challenges students to design and build model structures that can withstand the forces of a simulated earthquake. The competition aims to promote awareness of earthquake engineering and encourage students to pursue careers in this field. During the competition, students are given a set of guidelines and materials to build their models, which are then tested on a shaking table that simulates the effects of an earthquake. Models will be judged on their ability to withstand vibrations and maintain their structural integrity.

IDEERS is not only a competition, but also an educational program that provides students with hands-on experience in earthquake engineering and design. Therefore, through this competition, FKTA students who are involved can develop critical thinking skills, team work, and problem-solving abilities while also being able to meet other university students from abroad.
