On 13 June 2026, a high-impact community initiative was successfully conducted at Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau through the Eco-Engineering Explorer: Sustainable Pot Design and Composting Program. The program aimed to raise awareness of environmental sustainability, promote responsible waste management practices, and introduce eco-engineering concepts to the community through interactive and hands-on learning activities.

Throughout the program, participants were engaged in sustainable pot design activities using recycled materials and were introduced to compost production methods using daily organic waste. The principles of the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) were incorporated to demonstrate how waste materials, often considered valueless, can be repurposed into useful and environmentally friendly products. Participants were also exposed to the importance of composting as a practical and sustainable waste management approach that can be easily adopted in everyday life.

This program was made possible through the collaboration between Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau and final-year students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), under the Engineers for Society (EFS) program. Through direct engagement with the community, the students had the opportunity to apply their engineering knowledge and skills to address environmental sustainability issues through practical and impactful solutions.

In addition to benefiting the residents of Rumah Kanak-Kanak Arau, the program contributed to enhancing environmental awareness among participants and encouraged the adoption of sustainable lifestyle practices. The activities not only increased knowledge related to waste management and environmental greening but also helped cultivate a greater sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation and the prudent use of natural resources.

The program served as a meaningful platform for strengthening collaboration between the university and the local community while fostering environmental stewardship and sustainable development practices among future engineers and community members alike.
