A group of students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), actively participated in an entrepreneurship project under the Impact Digital Community Tourism (IDCT) 2.0 programme at the national level.
Through the effective use of social media platforms, the students successfully promoted community-based products by organising a competition involving UniMAP students who are active on social media. Participants produced engaging and interactive video content throughout the programme and utilised their personal TikTok accounts to promote local community enterprises.
One of the highlights of the initiative was the involvement of eight international students, who participated as part of the edutourism agenda. Their participation helped extend the reach of community product promotion, particularly the renowned Perlis shrimp paste (Belacan Perlis) industry, to an international audience.
This initiative not only enhanced students’ entrepreneurial skills and digital marketing capabilities but also contributed to elevating local products through wider and more impactful digital platforms. The programme reflects the importance of leveraging digital technology to support community development, promote local industries, and strengthen the connection between education, entrepreneurship, and tourism.

A team of three final-year Civil Engineering students, under the supervision of Dr. Ilya Joohari, was successfully shortlisted to advance to the second stage of the Design for Plastics Circularity Challenge (DPCC) 2025, namely the Plastics and Innovation Bootcamp. The Bootcamp was held on 23 and 24 October 2025 in Shah Alam, bringing together the most promising teams from across the country to further develop and strengthen their innovative ideas addressing challenges in plastics circularity.
The Bootcamp served as a comprehensive platform for participants to refine their concepts through structured mentoring, technical guidance, factory visits, and capacity-building sessions with industry experts and key stakeholders. The experience provided valuable exposure to real-world sustainability challenges while enhancing students’ innovation, problem-solving and industry engagement skills.

On 10 December 2025, the Civil Engineering Technology (Construction) Programme received a visit from two Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP) members as part of the programme review and evaluation session. The invited panel members were Tuan Haji Ir. Abdul Rani bin Ghazali from Perunding Aras Sdn. Bhd. and Mr. Abdul Muhaimin bin Mohd Yunus from Evermix Concrete Sdn. Bhd.
The visit aimed to obtain professional input related to the programme curriculum, programme documentation, and current industry requirements. During the visit, Mr. Abdul Muhaimin, an FKTA alumnus, also conducted a sharing session with students, focusing on preparation before entering the professional working environment. The programme committee would like to express its sincere appreciation for the valuable insights and recommendations for improvement shared by the panel members.

A total of 65 students from the Civil Engineering Technology (Construction) programme, Faculty of Civil Engineering & Technology (FKTA), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), who are enrolled in the Highway and Bridge Construction Technology and Construction Risk Management courses, participated in an academic visit to the Federal Road Pavement Maintenance Project site managed by THB Maintenance Sdn. Bhd. (THBM) in Perlis.
The visit provided students with valuable exposure to project implementation, risk management practices, and the technical aspects of road maintenance works through firsthand experience at an active project site. The opportunity allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of industry practices and the challenges involved in maintaining and managing transportation infrastructure.
The academic visit also served as a platform to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, enhancing students’ learning experience and professional development.
The Faculty would like to express its sincere appreciation and gratitude to THB Maintenance Sdn. Bhd. (THBM) for their warm hospitality, knowledge sharing, and cooperation in making this educational visit a success.

An industrial visit to the Regional Sewage Treatment Plant (RSTP), Kota Setar, Kedah was conducted on 12 November 2025, involving 36 final-year undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering programme, accompanied by five (5) FKTA lecturers.
The RSTP Kota Setar is a newly developed treatment plant equipped with advanced technology and a design capacity of 100,000 population equivalent (PE), operated by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The visit provided students with valuable real-world exposure to modern wastewater treatment practices, including wastewater treatment processes, engineering design of treatment systems, daily plant operations in compliance with industry standards, and the importance of wastewater management within the context of sustainability.
This experiential learning opportunity strengthened students’ understanding of the design, operation and management of wastewater treatment systems implemented by IWK, effectively bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial practice.
